| An Exclusive Interview With Riya Sen The 5'1" tall, budding actress, Riya Sen is a grand daughter of legendary film actress Suchitra Sen and daughter of Moon Moon Sen. I’ll define my own morality says Riya Sen, who is all excited about her forthcoming films — Qayamat and Jhankaar Beats
Qayamat is a bit too erotic, tell us about your character ?! Yeah, it’s very glamorous actually. My character in Qayamat demanded a fair bit of oomph and I’ve been faithful to it. Anyway, I don’t understand why people are getting so excited about it — flesh is all over society, it’s all over the idiot box. People can go ahead and debate morality but who is anyone to pass a verdict? Let’s wake up and smell the coffee — morality is passé. And if it exists, I’ll define my own morality. Tell us about Jhankaar Beats? Oh, I’m really looking forward to the release of Jhankaar Beats. It’s a modern fun-filled youth extravaganza with brilliant music, which I am told, is doing really well on the charts. For a newcomer, Sujoy (Ghosh) has done a splendid job. I know this sounds biased, but two of my songs, Suno na and Tu aashiqui hai are outstanding. One of my friends told me that Suno na helped him rediscover himself! My role is, I play Shayan’s love interest. Weren’t you seeing Shayan? Shayan and I have known each other for years. We’re both Bengalis. We did our first ad-film together. Our relationship is on an altogether different level. So which are the other flicks in your kitty? I’m working on quite a few, but for now I’ll talk about Bachelor with my sister (Raima), Saazish with Milind (Soman), and one for Sahara. There’s a big-banner multi-starrer that’s been offered, and another project being directed by the assistant of a brilliant parallel cinema film-maker.
All hardcore commercial fare? Yeah. I enjoy commercial cinema and make no bones about it. I like girls like Kareena, Antara and Bipasha, all modern and independent forward-thinkers who do what their sensibilities dictate. Their clarity of thought is invigorating. What is your equation with Raima? And your mother? We’re best friends. Mum is really a prototype of a strong independent woman who knows her mind, and runs on conviction rather than pre-set norms. And that’s exactly how we are — our mama’s daughters. |
