'Maan Gaye Mughal E Azam' is Directed by Sanjay Chhel. The director has come up
with an interesting subject but then it lacked finesse when it came to the
presentation or the narration of the plot.
A tale with a twist, the film begins with the small town of St Louise near Goa and
now that has come into focus since there is news that a large cache of arms and
ammunition is on its way in the coast and there is a mention of RDX being
accommodated. In the same town is the famous theatre group known as the Kalakar
Theatre Company and true to its title, the company has actors who are dreamers but
in reality cannot do anything more than the routine 'Maan Gaye Mughal E Azam' for
the umpteenth time.
The team consists of Arjun (Rahul) Shabnam (Mallika) Andaaz Haldi Hassan (Kay Kay)
and others. Now their monotonous lifestyle gets a twist when they get to know that
a very powerful don has planned for a major bomb attack in the nation and now the
team of actors have to come together to thwart this plan. And what happens
hereafter is to be seen on the screen.
Presentation:
The director has come up with an interesting subject but then it lacked finesse
when it came to the presentation or the narration of the plot. The music was a
major letdown and though the camerawork was alright, the editing part was again a
failure. The script has somewhere lost its strength and the screen play though
effective was a letdown. Dialogues are really witty and end up giving
uncontrollable laughs but this happens only at few places. Coming to the cast,
Rahul, Paresh Rawal and Kay Kay have come up with some real good performances and
though Mallika could not contribute much her presence in the movie was appreciable.
Pawan was perfect while Manoj got wasted in this. The others contributed their bits
to the required levels.
