'The Last Lear' is Directed by Rituparno Ghosh. The director has come out with a rather off beat mode of story telling and though the presentation is good, it is difficult for the audience to comprehend the narrative.
A theatrical tale, the story begins with Harry (Amitabh) who is a total fan of theatre adn loves to play any role as long as it is on stage. His major passion is Shakespeare and loves to do anything for him but then he simply hates the idea of a cinema. At this point comes Siddharth (Arjun Rampal) who gels well with Harry over a cup of coffee and in no time both of them take off to flying colors. Siddharth happens to be a young and enthusiastic film director and as expected he manages to rope in Harry for one of his films. In this process, the senior actor comes across different experiences and then an incident occurs that changes the whole course of things. And what happens hereafter is to be seen on the screen.
Presentation:
The dialogues are a bit complicated, script is alright and the screenplay is effective but the pace of the movie is trying. The music for the film is melodious and the camera has caught the natural effects of lighting. Editing could have been a lot better and it appears that the comedy track was missing completely. Amitabh has come out with a good performance and equally competent were others like Arjun Rampal, Preity Zinta and others. However, Divya Dutta could have been utilised for a better role. Both Jisshu and Prosenjit did thier bits with elan and added value to the film.
